The Thoughtful Executive is a weekly newsletter for marketers on thought leadership, content marketing, and strategic messaging for executives. Delivered on Wednesdays.

Welcome—or welcome back—to The Thoughtful Executive!

Most flat executive content doesn’t start out that way. It starts as a sharp idea that survives a whiteboard, a draft, and a first edit. Then it hits the approval chain.

Legal reads for risk. Brand reads for tone. Product and ops read for territory and correctness. Others review in search of a certain vibe.

Then there’s you, reconciling all of it.

Each layer is reasonable on its own. Together, without an owner, they pull in different directions until the piece is technically accurate but strategically useless. The edges come off. The claim softens. The example disappears. The call to action turns into “something to think about.”

I am actually pro‑committee.

Put your pitchforks down! Let me explain.
